Contact the address below first. If approved, all the accompanying text information including this Rules file must be included, and must be presented completely and unchanged. If there is a subscription fee for the BBS, such a fee must be only for overall access, and not specifically for download or use of these files.

May I put these on a CD-ROM, public domain or otherwise?
No.

May I print some of these out for a school report?
Yes, assuming this is a personal or academic work, and you have no intention of publishing it. This electronic source of the text and images should be cited as would any printed work; the citation should include the URL, http://www.npg.si.edu. This type of use is encouraged; all other uses are specifically prohibited without permission.

How do I obtain permission to use NPG image files in a publication, commercially, on a CD-ROM, BBS, etc.?
Anyone wishing to use any NPG files or images for commercial use or publication must first request and receive prior written permission from the NPG Office of Rights and Reproductions. Please include minimally a description of the project, your name and your address, with telephone, fax and e-mail. Permission for such use is granted on a case-by-case basis at the sole discretion of the NPG. A usage fee may be involved depending on the type and nature of the proposed use.
